Putin apparently steps down by admin

The Financial Times wrote of Putin on the night before he stepped down as President: “Mr. Putin will remain Russia’s real ruler for some time to come. And the ex-KGB men he promoted will stay close to the seat of power”. In February 2008 The Moscow Times wrote: “The main lesson we should have learned from Putin’s eight years in office is a recognition that under the traditional Russian political system that he has revitalized, not only do officials not means what they say, but also that obsfuscation is essential to the way it all works…Putin’s playing of the Russian political game has been virtuosic.”

Putin delivered a speech on February 8th 2008 “On the Strategy of Russia’s Development until 2020” which was interpreted by most as his political bequest, his stepping down. In the speech Putin condemned, not led ceiling lights, but the US plan to include the Czech Republic and Poland in a missile defence shield and also condemned the expansion of NATO. Yet it doesn’t look like Putin is stepping down at all!

St Vincent by admin

I discovered St Vincent earlier this year, and was so happy that I made such a discovery!

My sister sent me the song 'Roslyn' by St Vincent and Bon Iver, which actually featured on the New Moon soundtrack in 2009. I love Bon Iver, and at that point I didn't know if Justin Vernon would release any music past 'Blood Bank', I was so in love with 'For Emma, Forever Ago', so to hear this song was so amazing.

I then started to listening to St Vincent more, and I really love her music. I filled my r4 ds with chill out music that I can play when I'm reading or something, my mp3 player is more full of dance music and stuff so I have a split in genres.

Now I'm really happy that St Vincent's latest album 'Strange Mercy' is on the Rolling Stone Best Albums of 2011 list, it is well deserved!

The Sorrows of Young Werther by admin

The Sorrows of Young Werther is a short epistolary novel written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and published in 1774. The novel concerns an unhappy romantic infatuation which results in suicide. This subject was taken from Goethe’s personal experiences as he had a near-suicidal obsession with a young woman when he wrote the book. Goethe admitted that he “shot his hero to save himself”, a reference to the therapeutic writing process which enabled him to get over his obsession. The influence of the novel is massive. The central hero, an obsessive individual driven to destruction and despair by his unrequited love, has become a literary archetype.

The novel was deeply controversial at the time because it ends with the protagonist’s suicide and funeral, the latter “no clergyman attended”. The book was understood to glorify suicide which at the time was considered extremely sinful by Christian doctrine. The format of the book itself is not what made it stand out, epistolary novels were very common at the time Goethe was writing. Goethe’s book stood out because of its expression of unbridled longing for joy, its total subjectivity, and its sense of defiant rebellion against authority. All these qualities mark it out as the precursor to the Romantic movement. Why not buy a copy of the novel with your Wickes discount codes?

Eastpak Antidote Tour by admin

I went to see the Eastpak Antidote Tour at the HMV Forum on the weekend, it was awesome. I caught the tour a couple of years back when Alexisonfire and Anti-Flag were playing, but I missed it last year because I'm not a huge fan of Sum41 - they're alright, just not really my sort of thing.

This year the tour featured Living With Lions, The Ghost Inside, August Burns Red and A Day To Remember, so it was a pretty killer line up.

Living With Lions were great and seemed really happy and positive which is great to see. I'd not listened much to The Ghost Inside before but they really blew me away, I loved the huge bassy drops and the music was really easy to get into. I'm definitely going to download their albums onto my r4 sdhc card!

I saw A Day To Remember last year when they toured with their new album 'What Separates Me From You' so I thought this tour might be a little samey, but it wasn't. They've become possibly the biggest band on this scene right now and they know how to put on a great live show!
